FARMER’S MARKET UPDATES
The Farmer’s Market conducted a survey on August 9th and results will be coming out in about a week. The market continues to bustle with happy neighbors, children and dogs; the vendors and community are getting to know each other well and the array of produce, baked goods, flowers and artisan specialties have created a lowkey way to create new connections in the community and delicious items to take home for the week’s meals. We’d love to get your feedback HERE if you have a moment.
Not IF but WHEN an Emergency Arrives
The volunteer Emergency Hub team conducted a drill in the Park on Saturday, practicing our plan to mobilize a support system for neighbors to help each other in the case of an emergency- such as a devasting earthquake. To understand why this is important, take a quick look at this 5 minute Nova/PBS video clip of what awaits us off the west coast—the Cascadia Subduction Zone. https://www.friendsofmadisonpark.com/public-safety Time and time again we are told that it's not a matter of IF we'll get "the big one", but WHEN. This is also discussed in an article: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/07/20/the-really-big-one?
The Emergency HUB volunteer team is also expanding what constitutes a devastating emergency in our community and how important mutual aid can be for those in our neighborhood to feel and be safe. We saw beautiful examples of neighbors helping neighbors during the 2020 Pandemic shut down, and during the racially motivated threats on Marisa Spooner Le-Duff, owner of the Domicile Gallery. Neighbors came together with a "Love Happens Here/No Place for Hate" campaign to alert our community and rally protection and support for Marisa and the gallery.
How might we engage together to stand strong in response to any actions arriving to attack any of our neighbors, workers, or businesses who have done nothing wrong but might be intentionally or mistakenly targeted? Please mail madparkhub@gmail.com with your ideas or questions.
The Emergency Hub could use some help with promotional items; if anyone has graphic design chops and could help with periodic efforts, please contact us.
