Tips for a Successful Madison Park Yard Sale

  • Spend some time preparing for the yard sale beforehand. Collect cash, organize/price your items, check in with your neighbors about working together.

  • Types of items to sell: New and used items including clothes, kids toys/gear, pet toys/gear, jewelry, small appliances, small furniture items to name a few. If in doubt, it doesn’t hurt to put it out and try to sell.

  • Pricing your items: There are many ways to do this. Some sellers tag each item separately. You can also group items of the same price together in baskets, on racks, etc. It is also fine to leave prices off and work with buyers on an agreed upon price.

  • Most buyers are hoping to get a good deal so items typically sell for much less than the original retail price.

  • Consider having a free section and/or making a free section if you notice items are not selling throughout the day.

  • Accepting Payments: Many people will use Venmo or Zelle to accept payments.

  • Accepting cash is still an option as well. Plan to have cash on hand to give change. You may receive lots of $20 bills so having 1’s, 5’s & 10s on hand is helpful.

  • Connect with your neighbors to have multiple sales on your street. Or work together at one location to give you more freedom to take breaks throughout the day. If you live in a an apartment or condo, consider setting up the sale in the parking lot of your building or courtyard.

  • If you have any questions the day of the sale, there will be volunteers working the information desk by Bank of America lot.

  • Donate any remaining items that didn’t sell to local charities. Some examples are Mary’s Place, Good Will and Big Brothers Big Sisters. You will be responsible for disposing of any unsold items.

Have Fun! Thank you for participating!
