Halloween Festivities, Elections, and More
NEXT NEIGHBORHOOD MEETING ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14 AT 7 PM
Agenda Change: we’d planned the upcoming meeting to explore next steps in the Bathhouse and Shoreline Renovation Project with the architecture team. FoMP is still awaiting decisions from the City’s Park and Recreational Office before we can come back to the neighborhood with what options are feasible going forward. We hope to have answers within the next month so please stand by and let us know if you’d like to be involved.
Seattle Farmer’s Market Association: will be there to share analysis of their survey and future plans; learn more about upcoming events in our neighborhood and at McGilvra, and next steps with the One Seattle Plan and presentation from emergency HUB.
One Seattle Plan Meeting on September 30th: If you were not able to attend our meeting with City Council member Joy Hollingsworth and the Office of Planning and Community Development representatives, you can view the meeting HERE.
Ballot Drop for General Election
Local elections are one of the most important ways we shape our community—decisions made at the county, city, port, and school board level have a direct impact on daily life in Madison Park and across Seattle. Friends of Madison Park, along with partner community groups, is sharing short, candidate-submitted videos on our Facebook and Instagram as a strictly nonpartisan voter resource.
All candidates appearing on our local ballot were invited to participate using their publicly filed campaign email addresses. Inclusion does not constitute an endorsement; no endorsement is made or implied. Our goal is simply to provide voters with direct messages from every candidate in our area. You can view all the submitted videos on our Candidate Video Playlist. We’ll also be exploring additional ways to share this information in future elections to make learning about local candidates even easier. If a video is missing, we haven’t received one yet. Candidates or supporters can contact elections@friendsofmadisonpark.com to submit a video.
You can also check out the City of Seattle Video Voter’s Guide and the King County Elections page for more information including how to register to vote and how to return your ballot by mail or dropbox.
Halloween Block Party and Festivities
Halloween Fun: In addition to the beloved tradition of local businesses providing candy for trick or treaters from 4-6 on October 31, FoMP has added a few more goodies. We are a neighborhood of dog lovers so dress up your dog for Halloween and join the costumed pups parade at 4:00 in the park. Photo ops for the canines afterwards. Kid and family photo ops will be at the Madison Preschool Co-op as always!
And, for the safety of so many little trick or treaters, the block from Triangle Park to McGilvra’s Restaurant will be closed from 4-6PM and the residential block of 41st Ave E from E. Madison to E Lynn will be closed to through traffic from 4-7PM. Enter through the giant Halloween arches, grab your kid a glow stick, rock to the music of a deejay and go home with a sugar high and happy kiddos.
Want to help out? We could use help with set up and breakdown. And hand out goodies too! Please reach out to volunteer@friendsofmadisonpark.com.
Eli Rosenblatt is Back for Little Beats!
One of the most popular performers from last year’s Little Beats kids concert series is coming back Saturday, November 1! The October concert had nearly 100 concertgoers rocking to Recess Monkey. Hard to pass up this neighborhood delight - a walk to the historic Pioneer Buidling, an hour to get the wiggles out and visit friends - and only $5 per person! Season ticket here or day of tickets at the door.

UPCOMING WORK PARTIES FOR OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.
Next Saturday, October 18th, 9-12 join the work party at Prospect Preserve (at 41st and E Prospect- behind the Seattle Tennis Club). This jewel of a street end garden needs help as we get ready to put the garden “to bed” for the winter. Help plant ferns and perennials along the paths, spread some mulch and pull some weeds. If you enjoy this beautiful access to the lake, dedicate an hour of your time to keep it thriving! Tools and gloves provided.
Then Next Month, join our Fall Clean-Up in the Business area, raking weeding sweeping and planting bulbs to keep our business area looking beautiful for the upcoming holiday season. Saturday November 15th, 9-12. Check in at the corner of 41st Ave E at the Bank of America lot. Part of the City’s Adopt-A-Street program, the city provides tools and gloves and composting for all those sweet gum tree leaves!. Sign up day-of or HERE.
Montlake Turkey Trot
The Montlake Turkey Trot features both a 5K and a 1K run, organized by the University District Food Bank. It’s their second-largest annual fundraiser, with all proceeds beyond operating costs going directly to support local families in need. A fun and healthy way to give back to the community—what a great tradition to be part of! Register HERE.
ODDS AND ENDS
***There is a new STOP sign on 43rd E and E Howe. PLEASE LOOK FOR IT AND STOP AT THAT INTERSECTION!!! This is the first step in what Seattle Department of Planning has assured us are measures (including crosswalks) to create safer access to the beach and preschool from the business area and park. Stay Tuned! And STOP at the STOP sign.
***New lights on Street Trees/Added plantings- As many of the street trees continue to grow, we are replacing the tree lights along East Madison on the Starbuck’s and How to Cook a Wolf blocks, to ensure the light strands don’t get too tight and damage the tree trunks. We are also adding some new plantings under the trees on these blocks and crocus bulbs. Look forward to more greenery come spring.
