YOUR BATHHOUSE, YOUR BEACH, YOUR BACKYARD
Join This Important Neighborhood Meeting
Updates on the Bathhouse Renovation and Shoreline Restoration Project.
Our regular Neighborhood Meeting will focus this month on the Bathhouse and Beach Project.
Learn some history of the Bathhouse and beach and the feedback gathered through our spring/summer 2024 community survey—responses from over 500 park users, including local residents and visitors from across the city. The survey highlighted key concerns with the current state of the park and surfaced inspiring ideas for how it could evolve.
• Learn about the renovation project, share your ideas, and help us develop a shared vision for the Bathhouse and shoreline.
• We’re still in the earliest phases—gathering community values and understanding key constraints like zoning and feasibility.
• Hear from expert teams at Signal Architects and Anchor QEA Landscape Architects as they answer questions, review past projects, and give an overview of the challenges and opportunities ahead.
THE JOY AND ENERGY OF THE EASTER EGG HUNT
Who can count the numbers but here are a few estimates- 1,000 smiling faces, 4,000 easter eggs, millions of bubbles, hundreds of delicious treats, 2 non-stop face painters, endless buckets of chalk and crayons, 1 fantastic Easter Bunny, 35 volunteers led by our fearless chair Becky Voboril and all made possible by Key Bank’s support and Red Wagon’s team, supplies and fantastic ideas. Oh, and 24 hours of sunshine!
ONE SEATTLE PLAN
Madison Park’s Appeal to the One Seattle Plan’s Environmental Impact Statement was dismissed by the City’s Hearing Examiner on April 2nd- based on a failure to comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) of 2023. Madison Park, like most neighborhoods, was not aware of the Plan or the DEIS until spring of 2024.. Frustrating as this technical dismissal is, the net result is our community’s voice has been heard by the Mayor’s Office, the City Council, The Office of Public Utilities and the Office of Planning and Community Development.
On April 3rd, FoMP had a productive meeting with all those departments to voice our concerns about the stormwater infrastructure in our neighborhood, beach closures, and discuss our alternate proposal to some of the Neighborhood Center zoning designations and boundaries.
The City Council is required to adopt the state’s increased density legislation (HB 1110) by the end of June- allowing multiplex options on all single family lots- but the details of height, boundaries, set-backs, etc. will be months in the details and FoMP will continue to raise our voice to be heard and inform the neighborhood. If you are interested in being involved in this process, please email volunteer@friendsofmadisonpark.com.
KEEPING OUR NEIGHBORHOOD BEAUTIFUL
A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE SEATTLE GARDEN CLUB AND ITS $5000 GRANT TO OUR BEAUTIFY MADISON PARK PROJECT.
Their donation supports the enhancement and maintenance of the planters and planting beds in the business area. Planting, watering and maintaining these areas is an ongoing expense. Thank you to Jacobson Landscaping for maintaining these spaces, to Amir Mehmedagic and Rachel Adler for the new planter (coming next week) in front of Madison Park Pharmacy and Wellness Center and to the community members who have donated to this Project. We have 2 planters remaining that welcome sponsors (with sponsor plaques). You can donate toward the BMP Project HERE.
