LOOKING TO THE FUTURE OF OUR BEACH AND BATHHOUSE
Over the next 2 Neighborhood Meetings- on Tuesday, May 6th and Tuesday June 3rd, at 7 p.m. participate in shaping the future our well-loved Bathhouse and Beach.
What’s on your Madison Park Beach & Bathhouse wish list? Help us imagine what a better community space could look like.
A cleaner, more accessible dock
Better restrooms with year-round access
Space to gather for events in all seasons
Safer, more comfortable areas for sunbathing and swimming
A beach that’s fun and welcoming for families with kids
A preschool space that serves the community well
Celebrating and preserving the Bathhouse’s unique history
Other ideas you’d love to see?
This is an interactive Neighborhood Meeting. Meet the architectural team of Signal Architects and Anchor QEA who are helping to envision improvements for both the Bathhouse and Beach.
In this early stage of exploring feasible design, WE NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU!
There will be multiple ways for you to post your wishes, ask your questions, raise your hand with concerns and ideas. Including by live streaming and posting questions (click on the QR Code below). From these meetings, the next steps of concrete conceptual designs will emerge. BE PART OF THE CREATIVE TEAM!
If you can make the meeting please RSVP here.
ONE SEATTLE PLAN UPDATE
Friends of Madison Park continues to engage with the City to be sure our concerns about the adoption of the One Seattle Plan are heard. We are scheduled to meet with the heads of the Office of Planning and Community Development (OPCD) and a representative of Seattle Public Utilities on Monday April 28th to walk the neighborhood. We have met with City Council Rep. Joy Hollingsworth’s office to get updates and have requested Joy speak to the neighborhood in the next month.
We also continue to get informed about the stormwater and sewer infrastructure in Madison Park. If you have expertise in this area, we could use your help. If you are a land-use attorney, we could use your help.
Bottom line here’s what to expect going forth:
***May 30th the City Council will adopt the state’s interim legislation HB1110 requiring all lots in the city to allow 4 units per lot, or 6 units per lot if 2 are designated affordable housing. This does NOT require a developer to eliminate single family homes but allows that possibility. This does not designate heights, setbacks, boundaries of Neighborhood Centers or zoning designations within those boundaries.
***September 30th will be the deadline for the City Council adopting the boundaries of the Neighborhood Centers.
***2-3 months later will be the deadline for the City Council adopting the Zoning heights/designations/setbacks within the Neighborhood Centers.
Friends of Madison Park has submitted to the City Council and OPCD proposed adjustments to boundaries and zoning designations. View the proposed map HERE.
***If you would like to help with the One Seattle Plan please volunteer HERE.

FARMER’S MARKET UPDATE
Friends of Madison Park hears from neighbors frequently- asking if the Farmer’s Market is happening. The process with SDOT is measured and slow but we are told we will know the answer shortly. June 14th is the proposed start date for the market. We will loop back when we have more information.
EMERGENCY HUB
DID YOU KNOW? When the power goes out, candles are a fire hazard.
WHAT YOU CAN DO TODAY: Have a stock of different battery-powered lighting options on hand, such as these items from the American Red Cross. Also consider headlamps, which are great for hands-free use.
This tip comes courtesy of the volunteer-run Madison Park Emergency Hub; to connect with neighbors and get preparedness support and resources, join the Hub mailing list; mail us at madparkhub@gmail.com. (edited)
