Lazy, Sometimes Hazy, Days of Summer

In spite of a handful of smoky days, the draw to be outside and the energy in the neighborhood percolates along at such a sweet pace. The combo of the Farmer’s Market and warm days has created a Saturday morning ritual for so many neighbors to catch up, hang out and buy the market’s delicious products and browse our local shops. The Market runs through October 17th.

The first (now annual) Madison Park Yard Sale got off to a fantastic start on Sunday August 9th with 70 people registering to sell and hundreds walking the neighborhood, finding treasures and enjoying the perfect weather. We expect even bigger and better next year!

And Music in the Park launched its summer run with two incredible bands- Blue Velvet Groove August 6th and the Jewel Tones August 13th. In spite of some technical issues with the power, the Jewel Tones trio had children mimicking their Motown moves and people on their feet. The Music Factory opened with students and teachers performing. Thanks to PCC for providing delicious free food to the crowd and Cactus for frisbees flying.

Make sure to bring your picnics to the remaining 2 Thursday concerts. Back by huge popular demand is Neon Rain this week August 20th and the always popular The Daddz opening for The Locals on August 27th. Coldwell Banker Bain will be passing out ice cream this next Thursday and Bamboo Thai has special coupons for pot sticker, coconut shrimp and spring rolls. Get there by 6 to find a good spot in the park’s meadow..

Hoping you had a chance to say goodbye to Harold, our beloved UPS driver, who has served our community so well over the decades. Neighbors organized a beach party to celebrate his retirement and have a chance to thank him for his ever present smile and laughter.

And thanks to our neighborhood Emergency HUB Drill team for always working to keep us prepared for any possible disaster.

So thankful for Seattle Public Utilities, King County Health and Parks for working with us to keep our beach open this summer (not to jinx our great summer of being open each week) and Friends of the Park and Seattle Parks and Rec for the new plantings at the Bathhouse, the clearing of blackberries along the shoreline and new picnic benches by the dock.

The Fall promises to be busy too. Check out details for the September 18th Art Walk, the return of Party for the Park October 24th. Little Beats Concerts are coming too, and we are planning Halloween Night with a Dog Parade and Trick or Treating- and even Holiday festivities in December!

Our quarterly Neighborhood Meeting on Tuesday, October 13th at 7p.m. at the Bathhouse will focus on the progress toward the renovation of the Bathhouse and Restoration of the shoreline with presentations by Signal Architects and Anchor QEA Landscape.

And just in case you missed our Call for Volunteers

We've created a very short survey (about 2 minutes) to help us understand how you'd like to be involved—if at all. Your honest feedback will help shape the future of FOMP. Please complete survey by 9/1/26.

Friends of Madison Park is only as strong as its volunteers, and we're always looking for more helping hands. Whether you have an hour a year or want to take on a bigger role, there's a place for you.
