DID YOU KNOW?
The McGilvra name is attached to several landmarks in Madison Park, including a road, a tavern and a school. John J. McGilvra was an acquaintance of Abraham Lincoln who appointed him to be the U.S. Attorney for the Washington Territory in 1861. In 1864 McGilvra moved to the village of Seattle and bought 323 acres of land, at $1.25 per acre. That became Madison Park.
