The One Seattle Plan Update
The City Council has completed Phase 1 of the One Seattle Plan. Madison Park’s boundary lines as a Neighborhood Center have been approved by the City Council. Phase 2 of the Plan, which determines zoning designations and heights, was scheduled to be completed in 2026 but is on pause pending litigation regarding the efficacy of the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), on which the Plan has been based. No votes will be taken on Phase 2 until 2027.
July 1st at 9:30 the City Council Land Use Committee has a public Hearing regarding the ability to challenge Environmental Impact Statements. July 30th at 9:30, the full Council will debate and vote on whether to preclude future legal challenges to the EIS through the City Examiner’s office. The Mayor’s office continues to promote an acceleration of the Plan as “Taller, Denser, Faster”. We will be adding links to our One Seattle Plan page to provide resources for learning more about city wide responses to the proposed plan. The Office of Planning and Community Development’s website provides the dates of meetings and details of the plan. The Urbanist is a central resource for views on the Plan- as often is the Seattle Times. A number of grassroots coalitions are forming in response to concerns about the Plan- Green Neighbors Coalition and Seattle Residents for Thoughtful Growth. We encourage the community to check out these resources, share others with us, get involved, and reach out to community council members and the mayor’s office.
